With two community spaces and unlimited possibilities, Aurora Town Square is a place where young and old can come together in all seasons to enjoy art, theatre, music, shopping, community events and activities.

Aurora Town Square includes two key spaces – a vibrant outdoor square and a new community facility that will feature a flexible performance hall with seating for up to 250 people and a variety of multi-purpose programming spaces that will bring life and energy to our downtown core.

Aurora Town Square is a key part of the Town's exciting downtown revitalization plan.

Ground Breaking Ceremony

Together with our partners, the Town held a ground-breaking ceremony Thursday, October 8 which took place at the future site of Aurora Town Square. This is an incredible milestone as it marks the start of construction of one the largest projects in Aurora history. We can expect to see the transformation begin with fencing scheduled to go up as early as the week of October 19.

Community Consultation
The development of Aurora Town Square has been informed by extensive community engagement with key stakeholders. As the project transitions to the construction phase in 2020, community engagement will continue to shape the development of Aurora Town Square and the Town will use a range of outreach strategies to raise awareness and engage residents, businesses and visitors
about this exciting project.

Design and Heritage
Aurora Town Square integrates Aurora’s much-loved Church Street School with landscaped open spaces and a new purpose-built cultural facility. Through its thoughtful design, which includes a three-storey sky-lit atrium, performance spaces flooded with natural light and a dynamic façade, the addition will complement the attached heritage building and the character of Aurora’s historic downtown. The building is also designed with a number of environmental features, including a green roof, LED lighting, electric vehicle charging stations and more.
Accessibility
All elements of the Aurora Town Square project have been designed to meet or exceed the barrier-free requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Ontario Building Code. Some of the project’s accessible attributes include:
  • Barrier-free path of travel from all on and off-street parking and drop-off locations to various entrances throughout the site
  • More than double the legislated requirement for barrier-free parking
  • All floors served by a passenger elevator of sufficient size to allow for a mobility device plus a companion
  • Accessible seating area in the performance hall, including companion seating and assistive listening devices
  • Barrier-free drinking fountains and bottle filling stations on all floors
  • Numerous barrier-free washrooms throughout, including a main floor universal washroom with adult change table
Parking

The Town has identified a range of parking solutions to ensure visitors can enjoy the magic of Aurora Town Square. Strategies include maximizing off-street parking, implementing Transportation Demand Management strategies, revising Yonge Street parking restrictions, increasing on-street parking on Church Street and Victoria Street, among others. The Town will continue to explore these options to address long-term parking demand.
