We have completed the installation of 10 in-ground dog waste containers across 8 parks and trails.

Staff have retained the company Sutera Inc., to create in-ground concrete containers that will hold dog waste for up to six weeks. These large capacity containers are installed below ground where the depth allows for cooler conditions and no direct sunlight, eliminating odours, maximizing capacity and reducing required frequency of service.

The above ground structure has a small hole that allows for people to drop their dog waste into it.

The waste will be collected through our Green for Life (GFL) Environmental contract and the waste will be accepted through York Region’s green collection program diverting waste from the landfill.

The containers are installed in designated parks and trails and located near an accessible paved surface and will be highly visible to pet owners.

The dog waste containers have been installed at the following locations:

  • Canine Commons Park (315 Industrial Parkway)
  • Case Woodlot entrance from Henderson Dr.
  • Hamilton Park entrance from Pinnacle Trail
  • Mary Street parking lot (Sheppard’s Bush Conservation Area)
  • Lakeview Trail entrance from Aurora Heights Dr.
  • Thompson Park entrance from Somerton Crt.
  • Tim Jones Trail entrance from Wellington St.
  • Tim Jones Trail entrance from AFLC parking lot
  • Tim Jones Trail entrance from Deerglen Terrace parking lot
