The Town of Aurora’s Windrow Removal Pilot Program is designed to assist seniors and residents with a disability maintain road access from their driveways during the winter season by clearing the windrows at the end of driveways after snowplows have cleared the road.
The pilot program will begin on December 1, 2023, and run until April 1, 2024.

Windrow snow clearing will be done after primary and secondary roads have been plowed. It may take up to 24 hours after the end of a snowstorm for windrows to be cleared.
The windrow snow clearing vehicles will be dispatched after a minimum 8 cm snowfall event. Snow will be cleared from the end of residential driveways with a minimum of three metres (one car width), storing it within the boulevard or appropriate location on site. Snow is not cleared from the sidewalk windrow, residential pathways, driveways or removed from the property as part of this program.
Our program strives to deliver this service in a timely manner. However, sometimes unforeseen weather and other circumstances can arise. If you frequently leave your home, consider making other arrangements to have your windrow cleared.
If Aurora declares a significant weather event, windrow plows will be dispatched following the end of the significant weather event.
Driveways located on regional roads, commercial, industrial, institutional, high-rise properties, private roads, roads undergoing development and rear lanes would not be included in the program.Who is Eligible? |
If you are 65 years of age or older, all occupants of the household must be over 65 years of age and have no other able-bodied occupants residing at the subject property. You must show proof of age in the form of Government issued ID (birth certificate, driver’s license, or passport). All applicants are required sign off on a waiver of liability with respect to the program. |
How do I apply? |
Applications will be accepted in-person at the Joint Operations Centre (229 Industrial Pkwy N) and Aurora Town Hall (100 John West Way) from October 16 to November 30, 2023. Applicants are required to bring the following documentation with them when applying:

Ineligible Driveway Locations Driveways located on regional roads, commercial, industrial, institutional, high-rise properties, private roads, roads undergoing development and rear lanes are not included in the program. Garbage and Recycling Collection Impacts If waste containers are placed on the driveway entrance or on the road, windrow clearing may not be possible. |
What is my role in the program? |
Blocked Driveways Driveways cannot be blocked by cars parked on the street that prevent clearing activities. If a car is blocking the driveway, the windrow will not be cleared and will not be serviced at a later date.
