To mark Recreation and Parks Month in June (JRPM), the Town of Aurora is celebrating with a calendar full of active, healthy and fun activities, including several free drop-in programs for the community to participate in throughout the month. JRPM is an initiative aimed to increase awareness of the important benefits of recreation and parks for individuals, families and communities. Recreation and Parks Month raises awareness for the role parks and recreation plays as pathways to individual, community, and environmental well-being. Mayor Mrakas has also issued a proclamation for the month of June for JRPM.

“I hope everyone in our community has the chance to participate in Recreation and Parks Month activities during the month of June. Aurora is fortunate to have many parks, trails and outdoors spaces which helps develop strong, healthy communities that are inclusive,” said Aurora Mayor Tom Mrakas. “Visit a new park in our Town or step into one of our local community centres to take advantage of free drop-in classes that the Town is offering this month in celebration of JRPM. Try a new activity like skating, rock climbing or pickleball and enjoy some quality time with family and friends.”

The Town is encouraging residents to participate in JRPM by trying one of the many activities that are scheduled to promote this month-long initiative. Free drop-in activities include: swimming, skating, volleyball, yoga, basketball, pickleball, rock climbing, and more. Club Aurora, the Town’s fitness centre, will also be hosting an Open House on Saturday, June 24 at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex.
