June is Recreation & Parks Month

June is Recreation and Park Month (J.R.P.M.) is a movement that promotes the benefits of recreation and parks for physical, social and environmental health. Communities across Ontario have embraced J.R.P.M. as a way to promote local programs and events, parks and facilities that are available for all citizens to enjoy.

Access to parks and recreation is a fundamental human need that helps foster personal health, strong communities and social inclusion.

J.R.P.M. celebrates Ontario’s spectacular parks and recreation services, and raises awareness for the role they play as a pathway to individual, community and environmental well-being.

The theme of J.R.P.M. 2025 is “Community Thrives Here”. This theme is meant to communicate that recreation and parks bring communities together. Visiting parks and participating in recreational pursuits help Ontarian’s enhance their quality of life through connecting them with community and encouraging active lifestyles. From boosting well-being to building stronger, more connected communities, J.R.P.M. is all about celebrating the spaces and people that make a difference every day.

Each week in June will highlight a theme that captures the heart of recreation.

June 1 to 7: Energize

  • This week focuses on energizing communities by promoting active living and encouraging people of all ages to engage in physical activities. It emphasizes the role in boosting energy, health and community involvement.

June 8 to 14: Game Changers

  • Celebrating individuals and organizations that are making significant contributions to the recreation and parks sector. This theme highlights stories of leadership, innovation, and those who are paving the way for positive change in communities.

June 15 to 21: Legacy

  • This week is dedicated to recognizing the lasting impact of parks and recreation on communities. It focuses on the environmental, cultural and historical legacies that are preserved and promoted through recreational spaces and activities.

June 22 to 28: Unity

  • Emphasizing the unifying power of recreation and parks, this theme showcases how these spaces bring people together, foster inclusivity, and strengthen community bonds. It reflects on how shared recreational experiences contribute to a sense of belonging and collective identity.

For more detailed information and resources related to each week’s theme, visit the Parks and Recreation Ontario website. J.R.P.M. is your invitation to explore, engage and celebrate where community comes to life.
