The Town of Aurora on Wednesday welcomed representatives from two local MPP offices and an Ontario Trillium Foundation volunteer to recognize the long-term impact of a grant that has been used to replace the pool liners for the lane and leisure pools at the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex (SARC).

In 2021, the Town received a $236,400 Community Building Fund – Capital grant from the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Trillium Foundation for pool repairs at the SARC.

"With this Community Building Fund grant, the Town of Aurora has allocated funds to an improved recreational experience for residents, contributing to the strength of community ties," said MPP Michael Parsa. "Repairing the facilities of the Stronach Community Centre has demonstrated the Town's commitment to putting the well-being of the community first, and to encouraging the safety of residents as they enjoy water-based activities”.

Life expectancy of the average membrane in a commercial pool is estimated at 10 to 12 years. The chemical treatment balance at the SARC has been well maintained over the years and extended the life expectancy to 15 years. The pool liners were replaced in October 2022 using the funding received from the Community Building Fund grant.

“We are thrilled to have received this funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation that helps keep our leisure and lane swim pools in a healthy condition. These repairs to the pool liners will help the Town provide residents with improved water-based physical activities and therapy,” said Mayor Tom Mrakas.

“Municipal pools continue to play an important role for the quality of life, a reprieve from the summer heat, and as a healthy physical leisure activity for local residents,” said local MPP Dawn Gallagher Murphy. “Our government’s funding for new vinyl pool liners in Aurora recognizes the importance of these facilities to families and our constituents.”

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations celebrates 40 years of grant-making in Ontario and making a lasting impact in communities. Last year, OTF invested over $110M into 1,022 community projects and partnerships. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
