Newmarket, Ontario, May 3, 2023 – Human trafficking is a problem here in York Region and across Canada. On Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. parents, teachers, emergency responders and the community are invited to attend the Human Trafficking Awareness event in the Great Hall at the York Region Administrative Centre (17250 Yonge Street, Newmarket) to learn about the issue locally, how to spot signs of someone being groomed or trafficked, preventative measures for parents and resources to support survivors.

Central York Fire Services (CYFS) is hosting the event alongside the Ontario Provincial Police, York Regional Police and York Region, including York Region Paramedic Services and many more community partners working towards irradicating human trafficking.

The event is open to anyone interested in better understanding a serious problem in our local communities. Attendees can connect with community partners, participate in discussions with experts in the field of human trafficking, and learn how we can help combat human trafficking.

What:

Learn about human trafficking in York Region at a drop-in event organized in partnership with community groups and emergency services departments. The event includes community booths expert presentations and discussions covering local trends, survivor perspectives and police initiatives to address the issue.
