‘Future Grounds’ Public Art Mentorship Opportunity with Oddside Arts.

Aurora Town Square, in collaboration with the Aurora Cultural Centre and Oddside Arts
invites artists aged 16 to 24, regardless of their level of experience and background, to participate in ‘Future Grounds’, a remarkable public art opportunity.

‘Future Grounds’ seeks to engage eight young artists in a transformative mentorship program to
design a series of temporary, large-scale public art installations. These artworks will be showcased
during the grand opening celebrations of Aurora Town Square. The selected artists will collaborate
with the Toronto-based public art collective, Oddside Arts, during the design process. Each art piece will be enhanced with an innovative Augmented Reality (AR) component. Designs must foster inclusivity and give voice to historically marginalized communities.

“The primary goal of ‘Future Grounds’ is to inspire art that educates and raises awareness about the unique and vibrant cultural facets of the Aurora community,” said Phil Rose, Manager of Cultural Services. “Through their creativity, artists will contribute to a visual dialogue that emphasizes our collective potential to shape a more inclusive, empathetic and just world.”
Interested artists are encouraged to apply online at AuroraCulturalCentre.ca/Open-Calls/ by
December 17, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Selected artists will also receive an honorarium of $175 from the
Town of Aurora.

When Aurora Town Square opens in 2024, the Aurora Cultural Centre and Aurora Museum & Archives will reunite with Aurora Public Library, operating from one location in historic downtown Aurora.

Together, Town Square’s partners will provide the community with greater opportunities for arts,
heritage, culture, and connection for generations to come.
