The Town of Aurora has updated its Property Standards and Vital Services By-laws. Updates include new requirements for parking garages and minimum exterior lighting standards. Vital services requirements focus on improving living conditions for tenants.

“By updating the property standards and vital services bylaws, we aim to create safer, more attractive neighbourhoods and ensure access to essential services for all residents,” said Mayor Tom Mrakas. “These changes are vital steps towards enhancing the quality of life for our residents and fostering a vibrant and thriving community for generations to come.”

Some of the updates to the Property Standards and Vital Services By-laws include:

  • Introduction of minimum exterior lighting standards in certain situations
  • New requirements for parking garages include painting white and black columns, safe exit signs, green coloured exit doors, proper lighting and proper maintenance
  • Requirements to maintain accessibility standards and safe access to buildings
  • Requirements for adequate supply of waste receptacles screened from public view, restrictions on overflowing garbage bins/containers and requirements for apartment buildings to maintain their garbage chutes
  • Landlords to provide a minimum temperature of 20 degrees celsius between September 15 and June 1 in rental dwellings
