Collective Strength and a Shared Future is rooted in the belief that no promise is carried alone. It calls us to walk together in the footsteps of our ancestors—honouring their sacrifices while safeguarding the futures of generations to come. This promise lives in our relationships, collaboration, and collective power, reminding us that justice is ongoing, intergenerational, and shared.
This Black History Month, we reflect on the legacy of freedom fighters, abolitionists, and civil rights leaders whose vision was grounded in collective action. Their work lives on through our shared responsibility to uphold commitments to justice, equity, education, health, and cultural pride. Without collective strength, the promise cannot be fulfilled.
Guided by the principles of Ujima (collective work and responsibility) and Kujichagulia (self-determination), this theme affirms that unity strengthens self-determination. As we collaborate across communities, we affirm that liberation is collective—and that together, we carry the promise forward so future generations inherit justice, hope, and the freedom to thrive.
