You can play a vital role in helping your community vote and deliver the municipal election! To successfully deliver the election, we need enthusiastic and dedicated people to work together and help Aurora vote in October 2026!

Application for a variety of paid temporary job opportunities will open July 6th!

To be eligible to apply for an election official position, you must meet the qualifications and eligibility criteria, must attend the mandatory training, and must be able to work one day during the Voting Period.

Deputy Returning Officer (DRO)

Rate of Pay $300 per day, includes training and any mileage incurred.

The DRO is responsible for issuing ballots to voters and maintaining the official Voters’ List. The DRO confirms voter identification, locates, and crosses off the voter's name on Voters’ List, makes appropriate notations in the Voters' List, issues correct ballots, instructs the voter on the voting procedure and administers oaths as required. The DRO reconciles ballots by type and number and completes forms prior to and after the close of the voting place. The DRO also assists with setting up and closing of the voting place and transporting supplies, as required.

Revision Clerk (RC)

Rate of Pay: $300 per day, includes training and any mileage incurred.

The RC is responsible for adding names to the voters’ list by processing amendments to the voters' list. The RC confirms identification requirements, instructs and assists with the completion of required forms, makes amendments to the voters' list and directs voters to the Ballot Issuing DRO. Revision Clerks also assist with setting up and closing of the voting place and transporting supplies, as required.

Information Clerk (IC)

Rate of Pay: $300 per day, includes training and any mileage incurred.

The IC is responsible for assisting the MDRO in the maintenance of peace and order in the voting place, greets voters, confirms identification requirements and answers questions. The IC also assists with setting up the voting place and will ensure all signs and health and safety protocols and cleaning measures are adhered. The Information Clerk will ensure the voting location is free of any partisan campaign materials, and will ensure the voting location is accessible to the electors, and assist electors with any accessibility needs, including opening doors for electors. The IC will manage a large flow of electors within a voting location and ensure the voting location is free of any partisan campaign materials.

Applicants must:

  • Be eligible to work in Canada;
  • Must be at least 16 years old;
  • Must be available during the Voting Period;
  • Must not be a candidate, scrutineer or a registered Third Party Advertiser;
  • Must not be relatives of any Member of Council or candidate. For example, the parent, sibling, child, spouse or common law partner, grandparent, grandchild, cousin, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew of a candidate who is on a ballot;
  • Be available to attend the mandatory training and assigned voting dates in person; and
  • Demonstrate reliability, neutrality, and the ability to follow procedures.

Applicants must declare any actual or perceived conflicts of interest, including:

  • Candidacy in the election
  • Active involvement in a candidate or third-party advertiser’s campaign
  • Relationships that could compromise impartiality

Applicants with conflicts may be deemed ineligible or reassigned at the Town Clerk’s discretion. The Town Clerk will endeavour to assign each successful applicant to their preferred location and their preferred role but cannot guarantee this.

As part of the screening process, the Town Clerk or designate may conduct:

  • Application review
  • Availability verification
  • Past performance checks (for returning applicants)

Application opens July 6th. Paper applications are also available at Access Aurora located at 100 John West Way, Aurora, Ontario L4G 6J1.

Successful applicants shall receive:

  • Written confirmation of appointment
  • Assigned position and location and remuneration information
  • Training materials

All Election Officials appointments are temporary and subject to completion of required training and continued compliance with election procedures.

Successful applicants will be required to attend a mandatory full-day training session prior on September 16. Training shall cover roles and responsibilities, accessible customer service, health and safety, and upholding election integrity and secrecy of the vote.

Training: September 16, 2026 (during the day); AND

Work (select all if available):

  • October 17 –11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • October 18 –11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • October 19 –3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • October 20 – 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • October 21 –3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • October 26, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. * will receive a stipend for the additional hours

Pay information for each election day position is listed with each election job description.

The target date for cheques to be sent is approximately 4 weeks after October 26, 2026. Election paycheques are mailed to the address provided when you apply for the position.

The municipality will NOT be issuing T4 slips for the hours worked for the election. No deductions will be made as it is considered contracted services.

Expenses you may incur, including cell phone use, parking, mileage and transit, were considered when determining pay rates for each position. Expense claims are not eligible for reimbursement.

Compensation for mandatory in-person training is included in your pay.

Please note:

  • If you attend training but do not fulfill your work assignment, you will not be paid.
  • If you don’t attend training, you will be removed from your work assignment.
