Heritage Grant Program

Council has adopted the Heritage Grant Program.

Eligible designated heritage property owners are encouraged to apply for the Heritage Grant Program, with further information available below.

About the Heritage Grant Program

Preserving our heritage properties is vital to maintaining the unique character and charm of our community. The Heritage Grant Program offers financial support to designated heritage property owners for the conservation or restoration of their property. To check the status of your property, please refer to the Town’s Heritage Register.

What Works Qualify for the Grant Program?

The grant will be awarded to eligible projects that restore and enhance the principal features and characteristics identified as holding cultural heritage significance of an eligible property. Work that is Eligible for a Grant includes:

  • Work that preserves, restores, or enhances the facade of the heritage property;

  • Work necessary to restore the buildings structural soundness;

  • Work that restores documented heritage attributes that have been lost;

  • Work that preserves, restores, salvages or enhances specific heritage/architectural attributes;

  • Work that is highly visible from the public right of way;

  • The preparation of technical studies, including but not limited to heritage impact assessments, conservation plans or historical and photo documentation

Application Process

As part of our commitment to heritage conservation, owners of designated heritage properties are required to apply for Heritage Permits when proposed work affects the property's heritage attributes. The Heritage Permit process ensures that proposed work is appropriate for heritage conservation, meaning that the reasons for which the property was designated are not diminished, and its integrity is upheld. Staff will also assist applications in determining eligibility through the application process.

Throughout the Heritage Permit review process, our dedicated staff, Heritage Advisory Committee, and Council will carefully consider grant funding opportunities, ensuring that your efforts in preserving our shared heritage are recognized and supported.
