York Region Food Charter

Aurora Town Council reviewed the updated York Region Food Charter, adopted in December, 2024. The
Charter outlines a vision for resilient urban and rural food systems that support healthy communities and
values food sovereignty. Town Staff will continue using existing resources and partnerships to address food
insecurity in Aurora, bringing forward new opportunities through future budget processes. The report
recommends ongoing collaboration with local and regional partners to strengthen food access for
residents.

Community Planning Permit System

Aurora Town Council approved the Downtown Community Planning Permit System (CPPS), a streamlined
tool that combines zoning amendments, minor variances and site plan applications into one process. This
tool improves efficiency in the application and approval process, supports a mix of housing options and
helps deliver community benefits such as parks, public facilities and infrastructure upgrades. The CPPS
sets clear, proactive criteria for downtown growth, guiding revitalization with design standards that build on
the Downtown Urban Design Study.

Motion Regarding Yonge Street South Regional Corridor

An amended motion put forward by Councillor Michael Thompson and supported by Council directs
staff to undertake a focused planning study to define the corridor’s boundaries, appropriate densities,
unit permissions, building heights, built form and transitions to nearby low-density neighbourhoods. Staff
will report back to Council with the study’s findings, including recommendations for clear development
parameters and any required Official Plan Amendments for this area.
