Fire up the fun at Central York Fire Services’ annual fall Open House
NEWMARKET, Ontario, September 2, 2026 - Central York Fire Services (CYFS) invites Aurora and Newmarket residents to the annual Open House on Saturday, September 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ian Laing Headquarters (Station 4-5) at 300 Earl Stewart Drive in Aurora. The annual Open House is an opportunity for the community to get to know their local fire department and learn more about simple but important actions everyone can take to prevent fires at home.
Stop by for morning coffee and donuts, BBQ hot dogs, the Tim Hortons Express Train, arts and crafts, prizes, games, "Sparky the Fire Dog", interactive fire safety activities and much more! It's an educational event the kids will love!
Attendees are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated and bring a non-perishable food donation to support the Newmarket Food Pantry.
CYFS is offering a Dunk Tank for Good! Purchase 3 balls for $5 with all proceeds donated to the Hawkins-Gignac Foundation which aims to prevent carbon monoxide tragedies.
- When: Saturday, September 19, 2026
- Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Where: 300 Earl Stewart Drive, Aurora
The event is in recognition of the upcoming Fire Prevention Week (October 4-10), which centers on the theme of “Charge into Fire Safety” sparked by the growing fire risk surrounding lithium-ion batteries which power electronics people use everyday. The aim is to help educate the community on how to buy, charge and recycle batteries safely.
Background: For more than 20 years, Central York Fire Services has been providing fire protection, prevention and emergency services in Newmarket and Aurora. Fire Station 4-5, officially named Ian Laing Headquarters in 2024 after the late Fire Chief, is the first jointly built station by Aurora and Newmarket since consolidating fire services in 2002. It also houses two fire crews, the administrative offices, and CYFS’ Training Division.
