NEWMARKET, Ontario, November 27, 2025 - Central York Fire Services (CYFS) has officially unveiled its new fire investigation van, marking an exciting step forward in sustainability, innovation and operational efficiency. The fully electric vehicle, powered and equipped by Milwaukee Tool, reinforces CYFS’ commitment to reducing its environmental impact while maintaining excellence in public safety and fire response.

The new van will serve as a mobile command and investigation unit, providing fire investigators with the tools, technology, and workspace needed to examine fire scenes efficiently and safely. Outfitted with Milwaukee Tool’s M12™, M18™, and MX FUEL™ cordless tools and equipment, the vehicle allows investigators to operate without reliance on gas-powered tools or generators, dramatically reducing noise, emissions, and environmental impact.

“Central York Fire Services’ new electric fire investigation van is one way we’re using technology to enhance our operations, protect personnel and ultimately improve public safety,” said CYFS Fire Chief Rocco Volpe. “Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the van allows our fire investigators to more effectively determine the origin and cause of fires. This deeper understanding helps us collaborate with builders, educators, and community partners to prevent future incidents. By partnering with Milwaukee Tool, we’re not only improving our operational capabilities but also reducing our carbon footprint.”

The van is equipped with:

  • Advanced drone technology, allowing CYFS’ certified advanced drone pilots to virtually navigate fire-damaged or structurally unsafe buildings to safely capture high-resolution video and photos. Drones will provide critical visual data on burn patterns and scene layouts enhancing cause-and-origin investigations while minimizing risk to personnel.
  • A live-feed monitoring system connected directly to the Fire Investigator’s VR headset, enabling immersive scene analysis in real time, supporting collaboration and informed decision making on-site.
  • Secure evidence storage and digital documentation capabilities to improve the efficiency of fire investigations.
  • Milwaukee Tool battery systems for powering tools and lighting without external generators.

CYFS continues to explore new technologies that enhance community safety and environmental responsibility. The addition of the electric van to its fleet aligns with both the Town of Aurora and Newmarket’s broader goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing green initiatives.
The electric fire investigation van will be deployed immediately across its community, supporting CYFS’ fire investigation operations and serving as a model for other fire departments exploring sustainable fleet upgrades.

The vehicle was an investment of approximately $77,000 responsibly financed over a two-year budget cycle and supported with an in-kind donation by Milwaukee Tool valued at $13,000.
