Central York Fire Services Incident Report - Avondale Crescent, Aurora
Incident Type: Structure Fire
Date: July 7, 2025 Time of Call: 1:30 a.m. Ward: 1
Address / location of incident: Avondale Crescent, Aurora
Description: Central York Fire Services (CYFS) responded to reports of flames coming out of the roof of a house. The first arriving CYFS unit reported heavy flames coming from the rear of the house.
Crews performed forcible entry to access the rear or the house. Crews applied fire streams from the exterior to the rear of the house. Simultaneously, fire crews gained access to the interior of the house to begin search and rescue operations. A search was completed, and the occupants had self evacuated.
Cause of incident: The fire was caused by charcoal remnants from a barbeque.
Casualties / Injuries: One firefighter was transported to hospital for observation and subsequently released.
Community Impact: Avondale Crescent was closed during the fire operation and has since been reopened.
Current Status: CYFS has fully extinguished the fire.
Resources Used: CYFS responded with six trucks and a Chief officer. Other responding agencies include York Regional Police (YRP), York Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Alectra and Enbridge Gas.
Fire Safety Tips: Ensure safe operation of your propane barbecue with these precautions:
keep burners free of rust and dirt, check the hose for good condition and leaks, place the barbecue in an open area, light the barbecue with the lid open and never move the barbecue while lit.
