The Town of Aurora establishes by-laws to manage activities and provide a safe and livable community. These by-laws regulate, prohibit or impose a variety of requirements, and enforcement is undertaken where necessary to obtain compliance with Town regulations.

Some of the core operational functions of this division include animal licensing and control, parking control, property standards, business licensing and mobile vendor licensing.

Pushing snow, leaves or any other materials onto the roadway is prohibited. Leaves and ice can block catch basins and cause flooding and pushing snow onto the road is hazardous for drivers. Bins, gravel and any other materials are not allowed to be placed on the roadway.

Noise - By-law No. 6381-21

Noise to prohibit and regulate noise in the Town of Aurora.

On October 26, 2021, Aurora Town Council approved the updated Noise By-law No. 6381-21. The By-law provides standards for noise that includes restrictions and types of noise. Noise must be persistent and heard from a point of reception. This allows more flexibility for residents while also strengthening enforcement measures in instances of non-compliance. Highlights to the updated Noise By-law are:

Construction Noise is prohibited on:

  • Sunday all day
  • Any Statutory holiday
  • From 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day Monday to Friday
  • From 8 p.m. on Friday to 9 a.m. on Saturday
  • From 5 p.m. on Saturday to 7 a.m. Monday

Applications can now be made for Noise exemptions for construction projects provided the impact is minimal.

Residential Renovation Noise is prohibited on:

  • From 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday to Friday
  • From 8 p.m. on Saturday to 9 a.m. on Sunday
  • From 5 p.m. on Sunday to 7 a.m. on Monday

Waste collection from a property which abuts a residential property is prohibited between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Effective September 19, 2021, no municipality will be able to regulate noise related to the delivery of goods to retail businesses, restaurants including cafes and bars, hotels and motels, and goods distribution facilities. These changes are provincially mandated and the Town has no authority over them.

Property Standards and Clean Yards Highlights

  • All property owners are to cut and maintain the grass on their lawns and boulevards. Grass and weeds cannot exceed 8 inches or 20 centimeters.
  • All properties are to be kept clear of waste including any debris such as deserted or inoperable motor vehicles, construction or demolition materials, furniture, appliances, etc.
  • All swimming pools, hot tubs, wading pools, and artificial ponds must be maintained and in good working condition.
  • All yards are to be kept clean and free from insect infestation, vermin and other pests, and free from any condition which may harbour such pests.
  • All exterior surfaces, including surfaces which have been painted, stained, varnished, etc. are to be maintained in a state of good repair.
  • All roofs, doors, windows, eaves troughs, gutters, downspouts, chimneys, stacks and vents are to be maintained in a state of good repair.
