The Town of Aurora invites coaches, sport organizations, volunteers, administrators, parents, and community leaders to participate in Safe Sport for Organizational Success, a two-part learning event designed to strengthen the culture of sport in our community.
Aligned with Aurora’s Sport Plan, this event supports the Town’s commitment to safe, inclusive, and positive sport environments by providing local sport organizations with the knowledge, tools, and leadership perspectives needed to foster healthy sport systems. Safe Sport is not only about preventing harm—it is about building strong organizations where athletes, coaches, volunteers, and families can thrive.
Through expert-led discussion and open dialogue, participants will gain insight into how Safe Sport principles support organizational governance, athlete well-being, and sustainable sport development.

Session 1: Safe Sport & Organization Success - 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Safe Sport is increasingly recognized as a foundational element of successful sport organizations. This session will explore how Safe Sport principles—such as respect, accountability, education, and transparent reporting practices—strengthen organizational culture and governance.
Participants will learn how community sport organizations can move beyond compliance and embed Safe Sport into everyday operations, leadership practices, and volunteer management.
Topics will include:
- Understanding the foundations of Safe Sport in Canada
- Creating positive sport cultures that prioritize athlete well-being
- Practical strategies for implementing Safe Sport policies within community sport organizations
- The role of coaches, volunteers, and administrators in building safe environments
- Aligning Safe Sport practices with long-term organizational success
Session 2: An honest conversation on Safe Sport in Canada - 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Join Allison Forsyth, Olympian and Founder of Generation Safe, and Rick Westhead, investigative journalist and author, for an open and honest discussion about the current climate of Safe Sport in Canada.
This conversation will explore the challenges, progress, and responsibilities facing sport organizations at all levels—from grassroots community sport to the national stage.
Together, Allison and Rick will discuss:
- The evolution of Safe Sport in Canada
- The responsibility of leaders to create safe environments
- How communities can lead the way in building a better sport system
This session offers an opportunity for participants to engage with two leading voices in Safe Sport and reflect on how communities like Aurora can contribute to a stronger, safer future for sport.
