Recreation focused workshops for tots, children and youth

The Town of Aurora is introducing a new Play in the Park series which will offer a variety of recreation focused workshops for tots, children and youth. Each outdoor workshop is 45 minutes and provides an opportunity for participants to spend time playing outdoors and engaging in group interaction through a variety of recreation focused games and activities that encourage play, while maintaining physical distancing.

The Play in the Park series will be offered at Lambert Willson Park from August 10 to September 4. The workshops are held during the morning, afternoon and evening for three age groups: preschool up to the age of 5, children between the ages of 6 and 12 and youth ages 12 to 17. Programs offered for preschool and children up to the age of 12 require a parent or guardian to participate alongside them or remain on-site at all times.

“This is a great opportunity to encourage children of all age groups to participate in outdoor play with their peers, stay physically active and feel connected to the community. It is important that we support the mental, physical and emotional health of our children during these challenging times and we are proud to have created the Play in the Park Series that will support that,” says Aurora Mayor Tom Mrakas.

The Play in the Park workshops are designed for a variety of interests including sports, arts and crafts, science and movement. Workshops range from learning the basics of soccer to creating nature crafts, sensory activities and much more. Registration opens Tuesday, August 4, participants must pre-register and pay online to reserve a spot at aurora.ca/ePlay.

Town staff will be following the guidelines set out by Public health and will follow all disinfecting protocols with all equipment as well as on-site screening.
