Environmental Initiatives is responsible for implementing, monitoring and reporting on the Town's Corporate Environmental Action Plan (CEAP).

The Corporate Environmental Action Plan (CEAP) is a five-year action plan that will allow the Town of Aurora to meet its environmental goals. The Plan serves to protect and enhance the natural environment, promote environmental sustainability, integrity and conservation of resources and create a practice of environmental stewardship within the community.

This will help council to plan for and implement specific actions that will improve the Town's environmental performance and impact the sustainability of Aurora for future generations.

Take the Bring your own Bottle (BYOB) Challenge

Be kind to the environment and your body by filling up your reusable water bottles at Town facilities. Our free, filtered water refilling stations are a great way to keep yourself hydrated during a game or workout at one of our facilities or while conducting business with the Town. The Town of Aurora is committed to reducing the use of single-use plastic water bottles and all municipal buildings are equipped with refilling stations.

The Town has already taken steps to remove bottled water from meetings in our facilities and installed 15 water bottle refilling stations in Town Hall, the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex, the Aurora Community Centre, the Aurora Family Leisure Complex and the Joint Operations Centre.

The community water refilling initiative is part of the Healthy Kids Community Challenge. Healthy Kids Community Challenge is working with Blue W, a unique community-based program, dedicated to promoting municipal tap water as a healthy and accessible alternative to purchasing bottled drinks.

The Blue W website provides mapped details on where to find clean, free, public and commercial sources to fill your reusable water bottle. Look for the Blue W decal in participating shop and restaurant windows in Aurora. Take the challenge and help reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles. The Landowner Environmental Assistance Program (LEAP) aims at improving water quality and wildlife habitat within the Lake Simcoe watershed. This is accomplished by providing landowners with confidential and free site visits, technical advice and funding assistance for environmental projects on their land. LEAP is administered by Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) and made possible by funding from municipal partners and the support of the York, Durham, and Simcoe chapters of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture.

For more information please visit the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority website to contact your local Stewardship Technician.
