A Sub-Committee has been elected for the Southeast Old Aurora Heritage Conservation District Study in order to represent the Southeast Old Aurora community. The Sub-Committee met the Heritage Consultant for the Study in an introductory start-up meeting in May, 2013.
In order to complete a thematic history of the study area, the retained Heritage Consultant will be situated at a Town of Aurora booth at the Aurora Farmer's Market and Artisan Fair on June 22nd, 2013 and collect information from members of the Sub-Committee who may have historical information pertaining to the Southeast Old Aurora HCD study area. For more information please contact the Planning & Development Services department at 905-727-3123 ext.4226 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
A series of Public Consultation meetings will be arranged in the future. Details regarding these meetings will be posted on the Town of Aurora website and publicly announced in the Auroran and the Aurora Banner.
On December 13, 2011 Aurora Town Council consulted with the Aurora Heritage Advisory Committee and endorsed the initiation of the Southeast Old Aurora Heritage Conservation District Study Area.
Heritage Conservation Districts (HCDs) are areas protected by a municipal By-law, passed under Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act, by Aurora Town Council. HCDs are designated in order to conserve their significant attributes, which requires special care and attention in the planning process. HCDs can include residential neighbourhoods, commercial areas, and mainstreets, for example. The organization of streets, structures, views, plantings, and other such features can contribute to their identified cultural heritage values.
Currently, The Town of Aurora has one Heritage Conservation District designated under Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act, known as the Northeast Old Aurora Heritage Conservation District.
In order to facilitate the process of initiating an HCD study, public workshops and information sessions will be announced in the future. Attendees of this workshop will be able to learn more about Heritage Conservation Districts and voice their opinions.
