Highlights of Aurora Town Council Meeting of Tuesday, November 26, 2019


Technology Strategic Plan

Aurora Town Council endorsed the Technology Strategic Plan which supports the modernization of Town services and will enable the municipality to be more effective and efficient in meeting community expectations. The Plan includes a comprehensive, detailed work plan for the next five years and proposes the addition of two new staff positions in 2020, one in 2021 and one in 2022, as well as funding for a third-party managed security services contract. Funding to support the plan was presented to Council as part of the 2020 to 2022 Capital and Operating Budgets.

Mitigation Tactics to Prevent Illegal Demolition of Listed Heritage Buildings

Council approved an amendment to Fees By-Law Number 6147-19 that will allow the Building Division to collect a deposit in the amount of $10,000 when an owner applies for a demolition permit for a listed heritage property. The deposit will be returned to property owners after the requirements of the Ontario Heritage Act have been completed in respect to the proposed demolition.

Aurora’s Community Recognition Awards

Aurora Town Council approved the addition of a Senior Volunteer Award to Aurora’s Community Recognition Awards Program. The Senior Volunteer Award will be presented to a citizen who is 55 years of age or older and who, through their volunteer efforts, has made a significant contribution to the community and has demonstrated their commitment to being a positive leader today and in the future.

Sidewalk Construction on Kitimat Crescent

Council approved a motion put forward by Deputy Mayor Harold Kim approving the construction of a sidewalk on Kitimat Crescent. A total budget of $100,000 from the 2020 Capital Budget was approved to be funded from the Roads and Repair Reserve fund. Construction will be completed for the 2020/2021 school year.
