York Region is hosting a walking tour of downtown Aurora entitled Walk & Talk with York Region’s Chief Planner. Aurora is a great example of a York Region’ corridor experiencing urbanization in its heritage downtown where moderate future growth will continue to be directed. Over the past 5 years, Aurora’s downtown has undergone a transformation for people of all ages including a mix of shops, recreation, jobs, housing and transportation options while maintaining its historical character.
Come and hear from Regional and Aurora planning, economic development and Regional transit and transportation staff on how Aurora is being developed as part of the Region’s larger city building initiatives. York Region Public Health will be in attendance to promote the benefits of healthy built environments. The 1.5 hour tour will include stops along the main corridor of Yonge Street to see many developments both completed, ongoing and to come and the GO Station Area along Wellington. Other points of interests along the tour include the: Town Park, Church Street School Cultural Centre, Library Square, Wells Street School lofts and the Armoury. Wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.
As part of the MCR process, York Region is creating a video entitled “As You Said It” to get various perspectives from residents and business operations on growth in the community, future trends, opportunities and challenges and what future priorities should be the focus for the Region. York Region invites you to participate in this; however, only those who agree to be videoed will be recorded.”
