Highlights of Aurora Town Council Meeting of Tuesday, December 18, 2018


Noise Exemption Request – 440 William Graham Drive

Aurora Town Council approved an exemption to Noise By-law No. 4787-06.P to allow for the construction of concrete slabs outside of the regular time restrictions.

Town of Aurora Website Upgrade

Council approved a report from Corporate Communications regarding an upgrade to the Town of Aurora website. The purpose of the report was to satisfy Council’s conditional budget approval of $70,000 for the upgrade which was provided during 2018 capital budget considerations.

Ad Hoc/Advisory Committees and Local Boards

Aurora Town Council approved the establishment of the following Advisory Committees: the Community Recognition Review Advisory Committee, Community Advisory Committee, Heritage Advisory Committee, Finance Advisory Committee and the Governance Ad-Hoc Committee.

Council also endorsed the appointment of members of various statutory boards and committees, including the Aurora Public Library Board, Accessibility Advisory Committee and the Committee of Adjustment. For more information on the appointments, please visit the following link.

Sport Aurora Funding Agreement Extension
Council directed staff not to extend the Sport Aurora Funding Agreement, resulting in the agreement concluding as of December 31, 2018. Staff will bring forward a report on alternative delivery models for sport initiatives during the 2019 budget process.

Opposition to changes to the Planning Act in Bill 66 proposed by the Province

Council approved a motion put forward by Mayor Tom Mrakas resolving that Aurora Town Council opposes planned changes to the Planning Act in the proposed Bill 66 that may allow for an “open for business” planning bylaw. The motion also requested that the Government of Ontario reconsider the proposed changes to the Planning Act outlined in Bill 66 which speak to the creation of the bylaw. The motion further requested that a copy of the motion be sent to the Premier of Ontario, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Leader of the Official Opposition, local Members of Provincial Parliament and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.

Next meeting of Aurora Town Council

The next meeting of Aurora Town Council is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 7 p.m. in Aurora Town Hall Council Chambers, located at 100 John West Way. There will be a special Council meeting on Monday, January 21, 2019 to act on the Cannabis legislation regarding retail store locations.
