Congratulations to the
recipients of the 2019 John West Memorial “Leaders of Tomorrow” Scholarship
Award, Nuscha Fathianpour and Nicole In! Recipients received their awards at a
special presentation to Town Council on July 23, 2019. The Town of Aurora is
proud to honour two youth who have made a strong positive impact in their
community through volunteerism, leadership, and personal excellence.

The Town of Aurora believes in recognizing our Leaders of Tomorrow, who have made a positive impact in our community and inspire and give us hope for the future.
The Town of Aurora encourages students in our community entering their first year of full-time post-secondary study to apply for the John West Memorial "Leaders of Tomorrow" Scholarship Award.
The award will honour the achievements of senior students who are entering their first year of full-time post-secondary study at college, university or equivalent. The awards will be distributed to two (2) applicants per year. Applicants must be a resident of Aurora. Each scholarship has a value of $1,000.
This award would not have been possible without the donation of funds from former Mayor John West, who passed away in December 2013. The former Mayor and long-serving Councillor provided more than two decades of public service to The Town of Aurora between 1979 and 2006.
Application forms for the John West Memorial "Leaders of Tomorrow" Scholarship Award must be accompanied by a letter detailing the individual’s contribution to the community, which may include areas such as; education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sports, arts, the environment or any other area that contributes to the advancement and well-being of our community.
Applicants will be evaluated on one or more of the following:
Demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities
- Involvement in worthwhile community service
- Volunteer commitment, giving back to our community
- Acting as an inspirational role model for the Aurora community
- Demonstrated excellence in personal achievements
- Individuals who are committed to making life better for others
- Have performed an act of heroism or bravery
- Contributed while living with a disability
- Graduating secondary student;
- Acceptance in Post-Secondary Education or equivalent in September; and
- Aurora Resident.
The Town of Aurora will accept applications for the John West Memorial "Leaders of Tomorrow" Scholarship Award until May 1 of each calendar year. Supporting documents are due no later than June 15 of each calendar year.
Scholarships will be presented after July 1 of each calendar year (the exact date to be announced on an annual basis).
