​The safety of children and students is the Town's number one priority.  Town of Aurora By-law Services often receives complaints from residents and school staffs for parking violations in our school zones.  

Drivers often park or stop in "No Parking" or "No Stopping" zones, park too close to driveways or intersections and park in fire routes.  Drivers committing these violations are not only disobeying the town parking laws, they are also creating unsafe situations for everyone including placing school children at risk of injury.  

In an effort to improve traffic congestion and to promote a safer environment within school zones, Town of Aurora By-law Enforcement Officers will be proactively patrolingl all schools and continuing to respond to complaints. 

The following information is provided to assist drivers in understanding the most common violations at the town's school zones:

No Parking

This means you may stop briefly to pick up or drop off passengers, provided this action is actively occurring.  You must not leave your vehicle unattended and you may not sit in your vehicle waiting.  

** Penalty set fine for park contrary to sign: $40

No Stopping

This means no waiting is allowed, no stopping (even for a moment) to pick up or drop off passengers or to unload merchandise. You must not leave your vehicle unattended.

**Penalty set fine for Stop contrary to sign: $50


Fire Route

Fire routes are allocated to help Fire and Emergency Crews access buildings quickly in the event of an emergency. You may stop briefly for the purpose of actively loading or unloading passengers, but you must not leave your vehicle unattended and you may not sit in your vehicle waiting.

** Penalty set fine for Park in a fire route: $100


Disabled person parking space

Parking in a disabled person parking space with no permit or an expired permit is not permitted. Permit holders must display the permit on the dashboard or sun visor of the car being travelled in so the permit number and expiry date are clearly visible. Only the person named on the permit can use it to park in an accessible parking space.

** Penalty set fine for Park in disabled persons parking space or obstruct a disabled persons parking space: $400
