Aurora, ON – The creative energy and compassionate spirit of staff resulted in the Town of Aurora being awarded a Campaign Team & Engagement Award at a United Way of Toronto & York Region gala held on January 25. During the 2017 campaign, Town of Aurora staff raised $18,505.44, for the United Way through their staff campaign, reaching 132 per cent of its goal.
"Aurora is a strong supporter of United Way Toronto & York Region. We recognize the integral role that United Way plays in connecting our community with much needed resources. I am very proud of Town staff for their dedication, enthusiasm and leadership in carrying out such a successful campaign. These generous donations will help many families and individuals in our community thrive," said Mayor Geoffrey Dawe.
One-hundred and thirty eight Town staff contributed to the campaign through donations, event participation and volunteering. Staff worked together and came up with creative fundraising ideas to encourage donations such as online auctions, corporate bake sales, payroll deductions, and a run/walk.
Over the past four years, the Town of Aurora has raised more than $60,000 for the United Way. Donations are used by United Way to fund numerous agencies throughout York Region and Toronto including several agencies based in Aurora such as CHATS Community Home Assistance to Seniors, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of York Region and Yellow Brick House.
