Seeking participating sites for Doors Open Aurora
Doors Open is a fun, popular community event that opens doors to places of architectural, cultural, historical, or natural significance once a year – for free! The event encourages community spirit, local tourism and economic development. The event stimulates the arts and culture community and encourages volunteerism. Participation in the event is completely free for participating sites and visitors.
Participating Sites of Doors Open will open their doors to the public between the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017.
This event is overseen by the Ontario Heritage Trust, which has organized events in hundreds of different Municipalities since 2002. The Ontario Heritage Trust encourages recruiting new sites to the roster every year in order to stimulate continued interest. Sites are encouraged to host tours and activities in order to enrich the visitor experience, inspiring appreciation for local heritage.
Last year, Doors Open Aurora had 2,254 site visits to 14 sites and walking tours and encouraged appreciation for hidden treasures in our local community.
