The development of Aurora's first Cultural Master Plan is well underway.
1. Research Phase
Over the past several months two forms of research have been undertaken by the consultants. The first was to examine current planning documents of the Town to ensure the Cultural Master Plan complements existing Town plans and priorities.
The second form of research has been work on building a systematic database of cultural resources in Aurora through a process called cultural mapping.
2. Community Engagement
It is critical that the Cultural Master Plan be grounded in community needs and aspirations. To this end, a variety of community engagement activities have been undertaken.
Community Survey – an invitation to complete this survey was distributed widely in the community. To date more than 60 people have responded.
Interviews – more than 30 interviews have been completed with a wide cross section of individuals drawn from the Municipality, the cultural sector and important business and community groups.
Focus Groups – In mid-December three Focus Groups were held, attracting 43 participants. Each group had its own theme: Culture Sector Collaboration, Culture and Economic Development, and Culture and Downtown Revitalization.
Visioning Session – the details of this important event are set out below. Please attend and help shape concrete directions and actions for the Cultural Master Plan.
