Winter Overnight Parking Pilot Program

Please be advised of the three levels of notices regarding winter parking restrictions:

SNOW ADVISORY
Ticketing: No
Action: The Town's roads crew will apply treatments as necessary. We urge residents to remove vehicles from roadways to ensure safe and efficient snow removal but vehicle owners will not be ticketed.

SNOW EVENT
Ticketing: Yes
Action: Within 24-hours of a Snow Event being called, parked vehicles must be removed from roadways. Parking restrictions will continue for 24-hours after the snow has ceased to allow for plowing. Vehicles left on roadways will be ticketed.

EXTREME SNOW EVENT
Ticketing: Yes (after 12 hours)
Action: In the event of fast-moving and unpredictable conditions, parked vehicles be removed from roadways as quickly as possible. After 12 hours of calling an Extreme Snow Event, tickets will be issued for non-compliance.

Why has this pilot program been introduced?

Many residents found the previous winter parking limits to be too restrictive. The purpose of the 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. street parking ban was to ensure that snow plows were able to operate. However, most snow plowing does not take place during those hours and, in winters with low snowfall levels, the restriction appeared to serve a limited purpose. This pilot is about loosening restrictions on residents, while ensuring that plows can safely and efficiently clear the roadways.

What are my responsibilities as a vehicle owner?

When winter weather hits, residents are responsible for checking the Town website or call the Town's snow hotline 905-727-3123 ext. 4152 to determine whether a snow event has been called and winter parking restrictions are in effect.

Residents can also sign up to receive text alerts for Snow Events and Extreme Snow Events by clicking on the button above.
